Your Guide to Royal Caribbean’s Perfect Day at CocoCay

Royal Caribbean already had a pretty good thing going with its private island destination in the Bahamas. But the cruise line figured it could make the popular beach resort even better, maybe even “perfect.”

A $250 million investment transformed Royal Caribbean’s CocoCay into Perfect Day at CocoCay, giving the island a whole new feel and ramping up the fun for cruisers. The one-time serene beach day that had sprinkled in a number of excursions and activities to give travelers a bit of choice for how to enjoy their days ashore now features a stunning waterpark, bold rides and exciting pool areas that visitors often call the highlight of their cruises.

Here is what you’ll find at the vibrant and colorful Perfect Day at CocoCay.

The Thrill Waterpark offers 13 fun waterslides.

Thrill Waterpark

The highlight of the destination is this over-the-top waterpark. Thrill Waterpark is the centerpiece of Perfect Day at CocoCay. It offers 13 waterslide rides, a large wave pool and Adventure Pool obstacle course. You can purchase full-day ($45 to $99) or half-day ($39 to $74) admission to the park, and prices vary depending on the cruise season.

Daredevil’s Tower immediately grabs your attention when you stroll down the pier after leaving your cruise ship. This giant tower is home to seven of the tallest and fastest waterslides in the park, and the highest is Daredevil’s Peak, which rises 135 feet about the island and is the tallest waterslide in North America. Get to the park early to stake out you sun lounger and so you can get in a bunch of runs on the slides before the lines start getting too long.

The Zipline

You can book a ride on the zipline course, which consists of three lines that traverse the island, crossing over the top of pool areas and the waterpark. The ride rages in prices from $79 to $139 depending on the season.

The Up Up and Away balloon ride is a great way to get cool photos from 450 feet in the air.

Up Up and Away

This helium balloon ride takes you 450 feet into the air for the highest viewpoint in the Bahamas. This ride costs between $39 and $99 depending on the season and lasts about 25 minutes. The balloon is tethered to the ground, and the cable slowly unfurls to let you rise for amazing views across the whole island. It’s a chance for amazing pictures of Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Good Eats

Perfect Day at CocoCay offers two buffets, the Skipper’s Grill and Chill Grill, and they feature standard barbecue favorites like burgers, hot dogs and ribs. It also has tacos, fruits and cookies. Three Snack Shack locations offer excellent burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, salads and desserts. These eateries are included in your cruise fare. Specialty wings and fries are offered for sale at Captain Jack’s, the main bar on the island.

Wi-Fi and Drinks Packages

Your Wi-Fi and drinks packages work at Perfect Day at CocoCay, and our Voom package stayed connected with strong service all day with no interruption from ship to shore. Royal Caribbean also now features a craft beer made especially for the destination. Chilla Thrilla from Funky Buddha Brewery, an Oakland Park, Florida, brewer. The beer is a smooth tropical ale infused with mango and guava.

Oasis Lagoon is a large pool located in the heart of Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Beaches and Pools

Want to just relax? There are plenty of options. Chill Beach and South Beach are sandy spots on the edge of the water, and you can even wade out to the Floating Bar. The Oasis Lagoon pool features plenty of loungers and a massive swim-up bar, where hundreds hang out all day splashing around and having fun in the sun as a DJ spins tunes.

Private Cabanas and Bungalows

The island is also filled with a range of cabanas, located at numerous points, that can be reserved for between six and eight people. Royal Caribbean is also building overwater bungalows. These upscale amenities elevate your experience if you want to splurge to make your visit a little more special.

The afternoon flyboard show was spectacular.

Entertainment

A guitarist plays tunes, takes requests and interacts with the audience at the bar at Captain Jack’s. An afternoon flyboard show wowed the crowd as two acrobats flipped and spun around the lagoon to the beat of hyped-up music.
