Four Travel Tips to Take Your Cruise Vacation to the Next Level

When it comes to enjoying a wonderful vacation, the planning process can be stressful. After all, there’s a lot riding on this trip. Between the money you’re spending and the amount of time you take off work, you need to do all you can to ensure your vacation is the recharging and enriching experience of which dreams are made.

However, when you choose to vacation on a cruise, the majority of these stressful little details are already sorted for you. And, by following these tips below, you can take your trip to the next level:

1. Splurge on the Best

It may seem tempting to book that bargain cruise, but remember, you get what you pay for. When it comes to cruises, it’s always worth splurging for the best. After all, you’ll be spending the majority of your vacation on the ship, so choosing a top-rated cruise line and booking a trip on one of their top-tier ships will equate to an all-around better experience. For instance, high-end cruise ships bound for Alaska cruises are known to have better dining options, spa experiences and amenities like luxury bedding and high-caliber entertainment.

2. Research Ports in Advance

Don’t cruise blindly. Instead, thoroughly research each of the ports of call before embarkation day so you know a little about each place. This will make it easier to select excursions at each port, allowing you to have the most authentic experience in each destination. Additionally, you’ll want to research all the shopping and dining options as well to get the most bang for your buck.

To keep all of your research organized, use the Notes app on your smartphone or an app like Evernote. And try to keep things simple and easy to reference by including a brief summary of each port and a list of, say, five places of interest.

3. Pack Strategically

Space is limited in staterooms, so it’s crucial to avoid over packing and to pack strategically. One of the easiest ways to do this is by using packing cubes. These small, lightweight bags are an easy way to keep clothing organized both in and out of your suitcase.

Roll everything so it can be clearly seen, and pair outfits together so you don’t have to dig around to find something to wear. When you arrive, simply remove your packing cubes and put them right in the drawers, and stash your suitcase out of the way.

Since checked bags are delivered to your cabin, it’s also a good idea to have a swimsuit and a change of clothes in your carry-on bag. Bring a few essential toiletry items, too, so you can freshen up upon arrival and not have to wait for your bags to arrive to get a jumpstart on the fun.

4. Arrive Early

Don’t be one of the many people who arrive on the morning of your scheduled departure. Instead, get a head-start on the vacation fun by arriving at your cruise departure destination two or three days early. Explore the area’s attractions and restaurants and extend your adventures beyond your time on the cruise ship.

Not only will this give you a few more days to relax, but it will also give you a buffer of time to allow for any travel delays or scheduling hiccups. Arriving early will also give you time to get the lay of the land so you can arrive at the ship early on embarkation day and skip the frantic rush that last-minute travelers endure.
